The giant saguaro cactus blooms every spring.I discovered this low hanging arm with buds one spring and it has become one of my go to cacti for blossoms, the only problem with it is that it is so low it makes and easy snack for the animals living near by.
Summer in the Sonoran Desert is hot, Mid-afternoon the temps can be around 107 or higher along with very low humidity. Some time in mid-July thunderstorms starts to form with moisture from the Gulf of California or the pacific ocean. These storms can bring spectacular lightning displays to the desert.

As it was getting close to sunset I new that I wanted to create an image with the sun peaking out from behind a saguaro thus causing a starburst. I really like to included a lot of variety of plant life in my images of the Sonoran desert.
I have visited this spot since I was a child and to this day it never gets old, any time of day or any season of the year. My absolute favorite time of day to visit is for sunrise, I’ll usually arrive about thirty to forty minuets before the sun. Seldom is the another human any where to be found. It’s like visiting an old friend with no distractions, just the sound of water spilling over the rocks accented by other natural sounds.
There is a lake in northwest Minnesota where the water spills over a rocky bank and begins its 2,348 miles towards the Gulf of Mexico. This spot is the Headwaters of the Mississippi River. Oddly the river flows north from Lake Itasca before turning south near Bemidji Minnesota the first city on the Mississippi River.
